Riding High: The Cycling House’s Favorite Climbs

At The Cycling House, we live for the thrill of the climb. Challenge your legs and reward your determination with breathtaking views and exhilarating descents. We call these epic days our Queen Stages. Our guides and guests have tackled some of the most iconic and inspiring climbs on our trips, and we’re excited to share our absolute favorites with you!

Rest assured, our expert guides are always by your side, providing top-notch support to help you conquer the summit. With our guides leading the way and support vans stocked with snacks, smiles, and encouragement, these big days in the saddle are now more accessible and memorable than ever. We also offer an extra gear or a boost with our fleet of rental bikes with great climbing gears and e-bikes. Our guides will provide descending tips and a steady wheel to follow for the descent.

Our Favorite Climbs

Mt Lemmon
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Stats: 20.7 miles, 5,300ft, 4.8%

Mt. Lemmon, one of the crown jewels of Tucson, offers an epic 20-mile ascent that takes riders through 6 different ecosystems from the desert floor full of saguaro cacti through hoodoo rock formations to the pine-covered summit.

Mt Gibraltar 
Location: Santa Barbara, California
Stats: 6.1 miles, 2,600ft, 8.2%

Mount Gibraltar boasts vast views of the Pacific and the Channel Islands, along with lush green hillsides and wildflowers. Once you’ve reached the top, we descend and enjoy lunch on the beach in Santa Barbara. This epic climb was featured in The Tour of California.

The Stelvio
Location: Dolomites, Italy
Stats: 15 miles, 5,960ft , 8.5%

Routinely featured in the Giro d’Italia, where it’s often the highest point in the race, the Stelvio Pass in the Dolomites is a legendary climb with 48 iconic switchbacks and breathtaking alpine scenery, leaving riders with a sense of accomplishment after conquering one of the most revered climbs in the world. At the top, treat yourself to a brat & sauerkraut sandwich before enjoying one of the most fun descents in the world!

Going-to-the-Sun Road
Location: Glacier National Park
Stats: 10.5 miles, 3,065ft, 5.6%

In our backyard, the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park winds up towering peaks, past glacial valleys, and through pristine wilderness, offering an unforgettable adventure as you climb past mountain goats to the Continental Divide at Logan Pass.

Beartooth Pass
Location: Red Lodge, Montana
Stats: 16.8 miles, 4,227ft, 4.7%

Cycling over Beartooth Pass is a truly epic experience as you ascend to nearly 11,000 feet along one of the most breathtaking and highest paved roads in the country near Yellowstone, with panoramic views of rugged mountain landscapes and alpine meadows stretching as far as the eye can see.

Rice Ridge & The Great Divide
Location: Seeley Lake, Montana 
Stats: 12 miles, 1,851ft, 2.8%

Want to experience one of the best gravel climbs in all of Montana? The Rice Ridge & Great Divide Route has everything: riding through the Seeley-Swan Valley, 365-degree mountain views with waterfalls and huckleberry ice cream at the end, and, of course, riding a portion of the famous Great Divide Route from Canada to Mexico.

Sa Calobra
Location: Mallorca, Spain
Stats: 6.2 miles, 2,235ft, 7.1%

Many aspects of Sa Calobra are truly special: the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean below (take a dip at the beach), the towering cliffs around you, and a hairpin turn that loops under itself. It’s a climb that you’ll never forget!

Vallter 2000
Location: Catalonia, Spain 
Stats: 7.4 miles, 3,697ft, 7.4%

Vallter 2000 is a stunning ascent that takes you through the breathtaking landscapes of Catalonia, Spain. This famous climb from La Vuelta, an Espana grand tour, will take you to one of the highest paved points of the Pyrenees.
