Review: Tifosi Sanctum Cobalt Bloom (Limited Edition)

In 2023, Tyler Pearce (@vcadventuretime) became Tifosi Optics’ first official brand ambassador, playing a pivotal role in furthering Tifosi’s brand awareness and has connected riders to the value and quality that Tifosi Optics has built its reputation upon. The limited edition colorway – a blend of cobalt blue and Bloom pink accents – allows fans to demonstrate their connection to Pearce and their love for cycling.

“We’re thrilled to continue to work with Tyler,” commented Tifosi Owner, Joe Earley. “He’s been a dedicated advocate of Tifosi, and has emerged as an influential leader in the cycling space. His passion and authenticity align with our brand’s mission, and we’re excited to see his role with our brand evolve.”

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: The Sanctum is what I would call a multi-purpose lifestyle pair of sunglasses that can be used for a variety of activities, including cycling. PEZ readers will know that I’m fond of pink (the color of the Giro, the most beautiful of the Grand Tours) so I’m definitely a fan of the Cobalt Bloom colorway that features pink. #realmenwearpink

The Sanctum lens measures 129 mm wide x 47.5 mm tall

If you’re a fan of oversized “shield” sunglasses, the Sanctum will be the ‘droids you’re looking for. Style, of course, is in the eye of the beholder, but the larger lens real estate of the Sanctum means greater coverage to provide protection against UV rays, wind, and debris. But the lens on the limited edition Cobalt Blue Sanctum is different than the “regular” Tifosi Sanctum (available in twelve other colorways): it’s vented. So for on-bike adventures, less prone to fogging up.

But like the rest of the Sanctum lineup, the Cobalt Blue has what Tifosi calls a Thrive frame. If being eco-friendly is important to you and part of your purchasing decision:

Tifosi is rolling out a renewable bio-resin to all new frames. The Thrive Frame is plant-based, made from the natural oil of castor beans, which eliminates the need of petroleum-based plastics. The castor plant can grow in harsh conditions so it does not take away land needed for most other crops. The new demand for the beans creates jobs and lessens the economic reliance on fossil fuels.

The vents are more apparent when viewed from behind

With its oversized profile yet lightweight frame, the Sanctum has become Tyler Pearce’s go-to sunglasses for adventures both on and off his bike:

“In cycling, there’s a saying: control the controllables. A fresh pair of shades is one of the easiest ways to enhance your ride,” said Tyler Pearce. “The VC Adventures colorway says ‘I’m here to ride hard and have fun.’ Paired with the Sanctum frame–part performance, part style – it’s the perfect match. Let’s play bikes!”

For me, the Sanctum Cobalt Bloom wouldn’t be my first choice for a road ride compared to purpose-built cycling sunglasses (more often than not, I reach for my Tifosi Rail or Rail Race sunglasses when I ride). But I have plenty of friends who are more than comfortable wearing what might otherwise be considered “casual” sunglasses for riding. IMHO the Sanctum Cobalt Bloom is perfect for a casual urban coffee ride.

Honestly, they’re a great pair of sunglasses for just about anything and have become my go-to pair of sunglasses for whenever I need a pair of sunglasses — which is pretty much all the time down in the SC Lowcountry with the more laid back lifestyle and resort vibe.

The Sanctum Cobalt Bloom has become my new favorite sunglasses when I play golf with my daughter (I can’t say that they do anything for my game, but at least I think I look good while playing) or go walking with my wife (she’s still faster than me).

Stylish with bike kit

Just as stylish with resort wear
