Factor Bikes Officially Enters Track Cycling with New Pursuit and Mass Start Endurance Bikes with Accompanying Black Inc Track Wheelsets
The new pursuit bike stormed to gold and secured a new world record with the Men’s Australian Team Pursuit squad at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The HANZŌ Track and RAIDEN Track are now available to purchase online and at authorized Factor dealers worldwide.

Factor Bikes and Black Inc have officially announced today a complete track fleet; the HANZŌ Track pursuit bike, the RAIDEN Track mass start bike and Black Inc ZERO disc and SIXTY wheelsets.

HANZŌ Track

Factor’s first CFD-led project, the HANZŌ Track was developed in partnership with AusCycling over the past three years. The goal was to create the fastest track bike for the Australian national team to ride for Gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Optimized according to the latest UCI design regulations, the HANZŌ Track offers ultra-efficient aerodynamics and maintains supreme rigidity for power transfer, perfectly crafted for pursuiting. With the goal of maximising the chord length of the airfoil sections and keeping the width minimal, the Factor engineering team used rapid CFD interactions to test a variety of combinations to find the optimal performance while staying within the UCI regulations.

Focusing on the interaction of the airflow between the bike and athlete, the HANZŌ Track features a wide fork and seat stays which are intended to isolate the spinning wheel from the pressure change from the fork moving through the air. Similarly, the rearward position seat post acts to straighten the highly turbulent flow coming off of the rider’s legs and decreasing the amount of mixing taking place.

RAIDEN Track

To complete Factor’s track bike offering, the RAIDEN Track offers riders focusing on mass start endurance and sprint events with a bike optimized to win. Utilizing the knowledge the Factor engineering team gained during the development phase of the HANZŌ Track and the OSTRO VAM road racing bikes, the RAIDEN Track design balances the requirements of straight-line speed and manoeuvrability required when racing in a group in the velodrome.

Featuring aspects of the OSTRO VAM’s headtube and leading edges while also utilizing standardized parts, including a 1”¼ round steerer, the RAIDEN Track boasts versatility for easy maintenance, service and rideability.

Black Inc

ZERO Track Disc

Complementing Factor’s move into track racing, Black Inc has also concurrently released two sets of track wheels to complete the set-up. Optimized in collaboration with AusCycling, the Black Inc ZERO Track disc wheels prioritize stiffness and aerodynamic performance enhanced for the airflow experienced in the velodrome.

SIXTY Tubular Track

Black Inc also wanted to complete its offering of track wheels by also introducing the SIXTY Tubular Track wheelset. Ideal for hard training sessions or as a gateway wheel to track racing, the wheels offer exceptional power transfer while remaining agile and quick to accelerate.

The Australian Men’s Team Pursuit four-man squad, aboard the HANZŌ Track and Black Inc ZERO Zero disc wheelset, set a new World and Olympic Record time of 3:40.730 in the qualifying round and went on to snatch the Olympic title from the Great British team in the Gold medal ride off on 7 August in Paris.

Rob Gitelis, Factor and Black Inc founder said: “Three years ago when Factor / Black Inc began a new partnership with AusCycling, our collective vision was to develop the world’s fastest pursuit bike and help Australia reclaim the top step of the podium in Paris this summer. To take this vision and manifest it into reality is a testament to the hard work and engineering excellence of everyone involved. We look forward to our continued pursuit of being the fastest bicycle brand in the world, and helping even more riders unlock their maximum potential.”

HUNT Wheels Announce H_Cyclo
Introducing H_Cyclo; fully recyclable carbon fibre & resin technology, now available on updated 40 Carbon Gravel Race and All-New 40 Carbon Gravel Dynamo wheels

HUNT Wheels, leading aftermarket performance wheel company, announced today H_Cyclo technology, the next step in reducing environmental impact while continuing to serve riders with high specification performance wheels that improve the riding experience. HUNT took one of the most popular gravel wheelsets, the 40 Carbon Gravel Race, and implemented the new H_Cyclo technology to reduce environmental impact through the use of recyclable epoxy and carbon fibre. Alongside the updated 40 Carbon Gravel Race, HUNT is introducing a SON dynamo-equipped (40 Carbon Gravel Dynamo) version for riders looking to lighten up their adventure setups while adding charging and light-powering capabilities.

TLDR: HUNT H_Cyclo

HUNT Wheels introduces a resin technology that enables the recycle of both the carbon fibre materials and the epoxy resin used in the thermoset carbon fiber rim molding process.
H_Cyclo technology is currently available on the updated 40 Carbon Gravel Race and all-new 40 Carbon Gravel Dynamo wheels. The HUNT team plans to introduce this technology into more of the wheel range over time to reduce environmental impact.
HUNT will offer free recycling collection service for all H_Cyclo wheels at end of life, or in the event of accident or crash replacement. There will be three recycling facilities available by 2026 (two in Asia, one in Europe). HUNT will store all products until the plants are operational. Riders will be issued up to £250 off a new wheelset when returning H_Cyclo wheelsets for recycling at the end of life.

H_Cyclo Explained
During the traditional carbon fibre manufacturing process, pieces of carbon fibre pre-preg injected with an epoxy resin are laid within a mold and then cured. This process is known as thermoset carbon fibre molding. Thermoset carbon fiber molding is the most mature carbon fibre manufacturing process available for bicycle rims and components, generally yielding a higher strength-to-weight ratio when compared to other carbon production methods such as thermo-plastic resin processes. The thermoset process with carbon fibre and epoxy resin was a one-time use chemical reaction, until now.

H_Cyclo technology utilizes a thermoset resin that functions exactly like traditional epoxy resin in production, providing the same strength and durability, and allowing for the use of the same molds and high-performance layup schedules. Using a chemical solution called CleaVER, the carbon fibres and epoxy resin are separated using heat and agitation, so that both components can be re-used.

The technology was created to enable the recycling of large format glass fibre wind turbine blades to create new, smaller format products. The implementation of recyclable H_Cyclo resin has no impact on the structural integrity or strength-to-weight attributes of the carbon layup, making the technology ideal for precision, high-performance rims. HUNT is introducing this technology to two gravel wheels at launch, with plans to implement the resin across more of the carbon range over time.

HUNT will cover the collection of products at end-of-life, making the process seamless and no-cost for riders, should their wheels become unusable in an accident or crash.

H_Cyclo Featured Wheel Details

HUNT 40 Carbon Gravel Race Details
The versatile, lightweight and five-star reviewed 40 Carbon Gravel Race from HUNT has been updated to reduce environmental impact using H_Cyclo technology. The 25mm internal rim width is optimized for 40mm tyres, while maintaining compatibility for 29 – 60mm tyres, and designed to offer comfortable, compliant ride feel without sacrificing durability. To meet the quickly evolving needs of gravel riders, the wheel has also been upgraded with the HUNT H_Ratchet 40T DBL hubset, offering quick 9˚ engagement designed to handle the torque loads of gravel or road drivetrains, with each of the 40 teeth on the dual ratchet rings simultaneously sharing the load. The lightweight 6066-T6 alloy straight-pull hub shell keep rotation mass to a minimum.

HUNT-supported rider Cecily Decker rode the 40 Carbon Gravel Race to victory at The Rift Iceland, Bighorn Gravel, and third place at SBT Gravel throughout the 2024 racing season, proving its performance and durability in the hardest gravel races.

HUNT 40 Carbon Gravel Dynamo Details
New to the HUNT range, the 40 Carbon Gravel Dynamo is a fully recyclable ultra distance-capable gravel wheelset featuring a SON 28 Dynamo generator front hub to power lights and electronics. Sharing the same 25mm internal rim width optimized for 40mm tyres (and compatible with tyre sizes ranging from 29-60mm) , as its non-dynamo equivalent, this wheelset is designed to offer a reliable package for those looking to tackle long-distance ultra races and multi-day bikepacking adventures during which there is a need for a power supply capable of powering lights and charging electronics. The quick 9˚engagement of the rear HUNT H_Ratchet 40T DBL round out the wheelset and keep rotating mass to a minimum, while offering increased durability over the non-dynamo option with 4 additional spokes front and rear, making the wheel ready for loaded travel and wide range gearing. J-bend spokes on this wheel allow for easy spoke sourcing and replacement in remote areas. Riders will have the option to purchase the 40 Carbon Gravel Dynamo as a single front wheel with the SON Dynamo front hub or full front and rear set.

HUNT Beyond athletes have been putting SON generator hubs to the test for years in the most extreme ultra-races on the planet, using the technology to ride through the night well-lit and eliminate device charging stops, resulting in wins at the Tour Divide (Sofiane Sehili & Justinas Leveika), three wins at the Silk Road Mountain Race (Sofiane Sehili) and two wins at the Alas Mountain Race (Cynthia Carson & Marin de Saint-Exupéry).

Scarab Cycles launches Andes, Composite Damping System

Scarab Cycles, renowned for its blend of Colombian craftsmanship and exuberant design, is thrilled to announce several new additions to its line this week at the 2024 MADE Bike Show in Portland. Headlining the show is Scarab’s all new Andes brevet bike, a unique take on what an ultra-distance road bike should be, Scarab collaborated with several partners to bring this new bike and the new Condor paint scheme together. Additionally, Scarab is proud to showcase its new Composite Damping System, which is now available as an option on several Scarab Cycles models.

Andes
The Andes is Scarab’s newest creation – meticulously designed and handcrafted for cyclists who demand durability, comfort, and versatility over the longest days in the saddle. Built from a curated blend of premium tubing, the Andes combines the reliability of traditional materials with advanced engineering optimized with rider-specific designs. Every Brevet is handmade for endurance, offering a comfortable yet efficient ride that can handle varied terrains with ease.

The development of the Andes was done in collaboration with Ronnie Garcia from Scarab boutique partner Eighth Hour Bike Studio in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia’s expertise and creative approach helped shape our vision of what our brevet bike should be. Together, we meticulously explored and perfected the technical aspects, ensuring the Andes not only meets but exceeds the Scarab’s standards of performance and versatility.

Both the frame and fork are built using a selection of steel that offers the smoothest ride feel while ensuring durability. The Andes’ front triangle uses smaller diameter – than the norm – top and down tubes with slightly thicker wall thicknesses. The rear triangle has long tapered chain stays with small diameter seat stays. The custom steel fork is a collaboration with Angel Bicycles, a frame builder near Scarab Cycles in El Retiro. Both frame and fork come ready with rack mounts, fender mounts, and dynamo routing.

The tire clearance range is 700×32 – 42mm without fenders. With fenders, it is limited to 700×35. The frameset uses externally routed full housing shift cables and hydraulic lines, this results in a bike requiring little maintenance and easy to service. The frameset is also compatible with proper-Brevet-style 650b wheels – 650b x 48mm is the max tire size. Framesets retail for $4,000 USD. Additional options, such as painted-to- match fenders, custom steel racks, and painted-to-match small parts are also available.

Condor Paint Scheme
The Condor Paint Scheme is a tribute to the majesty and freedom of the Andean condor. The water-color-like design is a collaboration between local artist “Washedog” and Alejandro Bustamante, Scarab’s creative director and paint lead. The final work features a unique mix of techniques, including watercolor, transfer, paintbrush, and traditional stencil, giving the design a depth that reflects Scarab’s strong attachment to the Andean mountains. The richness of this concept has extended beyond the bike, now featured in a line of bike and off-bike accessories, including jerseys, T-shirts, posters, and more.

Composite Damping System
Scarab Cycles is proud to introduce the Composite Damping System as a variant available across most of its lineup. The Carbon Damping System project replaces the traditional steel seat tube with an integrated carbon seat mast, offering riders enhanced comfort and a more modern aesthetic.

The carbon seat mast provides superior vertical damping properties compared to the traditional seat tube and seatpost configuration, delivering extra comfort and efficiency. The Composite Damping System upgrade is a component of our quest to tailor every Scarab bicycle for the best ride quality possible, offering a slightly different experience compared to steel.
