Gear Break: Cycology Mahalo Gravel Shirt, ekoi Racing MAGNETIC Glasses, Jespr’s New Cycling Computer, PRO Vibe Aero Cockpit, Rolf Prima’s New All-Road Wheelset & Muc-Off Tubeless Rim Tape

Gear Break: Cycology Mahalo gravel shirt, ekoi Racing MAGNETIC three lens glasses, Jespr: There’s a new cycling computer in town, PRO Vibe Aero gives cyclists the benefits of an integrated cockpit without the potential bike fit drawbacks, Rolf Prima’s new 16 spoke all-road wheelset – The EOS AR and Muc-Off Tubeless Rim Tape – New Sizes Added.

Cycology Mahalo Gravel Shirt – $79.95

The Cycology Gravel Shirt is a truly versatile garment, made for gravel riding but also perfect for casual wear or simply taking it easy.

Made from a technical fabric and featuring a traditional shirt collar and a button-down casual relaxed fit for comfort and style. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, with added stretch so it fits and performs beautifully both on and off the bike. The shirt has two lower-side pockets with zippers and a front pocket that provides storage space for necessities.

The result is a stylish gravel or casual shirt in classic Cycology designs.

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: Almost everyone knows that aloha means “hello” in Hawaiian. I spent all my summers as a kid at my grandparents’ on Oahu (they lived in Aiea Heights above Pearl Harbor) so, of course, I have the Cycology Aloha Gravel Shirt (I also have the Wisdom Gravel Shirt). So how could I not get the Mahalo Gravel Shirt?

At one level, the Mahalo Gravel Shirt is basically a shirt in that it looks like a casual, short sleeve collared shirt. But it’s made with the same kind of technical fabric you’d find in bike jerseys so has a little bit of stretch for added comfort whether for riding or just knocking around. A nod to its cycling practicality are the two rear zippered pockets for securely stowing whatever you can fit inside.

It’s not a jersey, so doesn’t have three rear pockets — instead there are two rear zipper pockets (my daughter’s old iPhone 6S Plus for reference)

I’ve ridden gravel but don’t really consider myself a gravel rider. But you don’t have to be to appreciate the Cycology Mahalo Gravel Shirt. If I was still up in Babylon on the Potomac, the Mahalo Gravel Shirt would be perfect for an urban coffee ride. Down in the SC Lowcountry, it’s perfect resort wear when we go out to our favorite restaurants and bars. Or visiting friends for cocktails/dinner.

The rear zipper pockets are more apparent with the shirt viewed inside out

Cycology has a sizing tool to help you determine what size Gravel Shirt will fit best. I went with size small because that’s pretty much my size for all my shirts (and jerseys), but it’s also the size the sizing tool came up with for me.

What I love most about the Mahalo Gravel Shirt is that each panel is different with a different Hawaiian aka aloha shirt-inspired design. My wife took one look at it and said, “It’s so you.” For sure you won’t go un-noticed if you’re wearing the Mahalo Gravel Shirt! So definitely not for introverts.

Chillin’ in the Carolina room

BTW, mahalo means “thank you” in Hawaiian. Mahalo nui loa (“thank you very much”) to Sarina her take on classic Hawaiian prints for the Mahalo Gravel Shirt. I have a special request: I know I might be the only customer for one, but please make an actual cycling jersey like this!

ekoi Racing MAGNETIC Three Lens Glasses

Framed perfection

Alastair Hamilton PEZ sez: I don’t have any ‘full framed’ cycling glasses… until now. I always thought you would see the frame on the edge of your vision. I was wrong. You can see a little bit of the frame at the bottom, but when you are riding, that’s not where you are looking. Why am I talking about the frame? The frame of the ekoi MAGNETIC glasses is very important, as there are very strong magnets set into the edges of the frames and also in the lenses.

Three lenses

These magnets hold the lens in place, and they are so strong there is no chance of the lens falling out while cycling. Cobbles are no problem and they also stay in place when running, I had to run back to the house to answer the phone when taking the photos.

Nice red lens and a hard case

The glasses I have came with three lenses: The Revo red, clear and a in-between rose shaded lens. As I refuse to go out in the rain (it hasn’t rained here for months anyway), or at night, I’ll probably use the reflective lens most of the time, the others will be great for dull conditions. This is where the magnets come in; swapping out the lenses takes one second, they just go click and that’s it.

Hard case, soft bag and three lenses

The easy swap is obviously the main facet of the ekoi MAGNETIC glasses, but they are also very well made. As with the best glasses, they are held together with screws at the hinges and the adjustable rubber nose piece, no plastic hinges. The legs are solid up to halfway where they change to adjustable rubber ends.

Solid hinge with rubber tips

The legs are straight, but they don’t fall off after you have bent them to fit your head. The nose piece is also adjustable and sits where you want.

Clear for night and very dull conditions

Rose coloured lenses to make the world look better and if it is dull

The ekoi MAGNETIC comes in many frame lens colours available, check the ekoi website out for your choice, they also have an optical insert if you need prescription lenses. ekoi also have bargains and discounts on-line.

Not too heavy

Obviously the full frame and the magnets add some weight, but I didn’t feel a difference and my ‘normal’ glasses have lightweight carbon frames, so… The glasses come with a soft bag that doubles as a cleaner and a really tough hard case with slots for the spare lenses. So, are they comfortable when riding? Yes, all good. No wind noise, no rattles and the nose piece and legs sit well, all comfortable. Also no steaming up of the lenses when riding or when you stop. Always remember to try any new glasses with your helmet to make sure there is no bumping each other.

The red reflective lens

What ekoi says about the MAGNETIC White Revo Red Glasses: These new glasses feature magnetic technology that allows for quick and easy lens swapping without the risk of breakage, right before your ride or race depending on the light conditions.

Thanks to two powerful magnets placed on the arms, the lens positions itself easily and stays perfectly in place during sprints or on rough surfaces.

The 3 lenses offer the greatest versatility of use:

The category 3 lens, with its low light transmission, is ideal for sunny rides; the category 1 lens is perfect for overcast or rainy weather; the category 0 lens is best suited for tackling fog or night rides.

Product advantages

Ultra-fast screen change.
Zero risk of breakage.
Comes with 3 lenses for all conditions: categories 0-1-3.

Jespr: There’s a New Cycling Computer in Town
Swiss Startup Jespr Debuts a New Type of Cycling Computer, With Integrated Mobile Data, and an Immersive, Uniquely Enjoyable Mapping Experience.

Today, cycling technology startup Jespr launched a Swiss-designed and built cycling computer that promises exceptional ease of use, thoughtful data visualisation and a class-leading mapping experience.

The device leads with a large, high-resolution display and a uniquely clear-eyed interface that Jespr developed to allow riders to quickly consume metrics and mapping details at a glance without taking their eyes off the road. With advanced features such as automatic re-routing, course notifications, climb detection, topographical view and wind information, Jespr blends a next-generation navigation experience with a whole new way of contextualising the ride.

Simple, Smart and Adaptable
From the first moment, Jespr’s cycling computer leads with simplicity to deliver context-aware information that automatically aligns with the rider’s terrain of choice. Users can add many different bikes to their profile, choose their ride type, and the device will show relevant information, wind data and route options for their chosen activity, from the road to the trail to the race against the clock, triathlons and more.

Connects to Everything, Including Radar
Jespr connects seamlessly to ride sensors, including heart rate and power. But even for cyclists who ride without a power meter, Jespr can derive and estimate live power output values from other available ride data. Importantly, Jespr can also pair with a bicycle radar and show approaching traffic on the display—an essential safety feature for road cycling.

Specific Ride Modes
Because no ride is the same as the last, the Jespr cycling computer includes specific ride modes developed in partnership with professional athletes and performance coaches. From the spontaneity of Free Ride Mode to the pleasing animation of Direction Mode to the power-focused metrics of Training Mode and the pared-down screens of Race Mode, Jespr offers the right experience for every rider and every type of ride.

The First Cycling Computer To Bring Internet Connection to Every Ride
Furthering Jespr’s aim of delivering ease of use, the device boasts the first integrated ‘always on’ mobile data connection with an internal sim that makes tethering to your phone a thing of the past. And that means ongoing navigation and even wind data information comes via the device itself.

Over the Air Synchronisation
With connectivity at its core, the my.Jespr.io platform supports over-the-air route and training plan synchronisation with all of the major players, including Strava, Training Peaks, and Komoot. Settings are also synced to the Jespr platform – a handy feature if a user switches to a new Jespr device. And even software updates beam to the device automatically, without the hassles typical of other devices.

A Free Data Subscription for the First Users
As a welcome to the Jespr eco-system, the brand’s first customers will receive a free data plan until the end of 2025. After that, a subscription model kicks in, currently estimated at €5 per month.

PRO Vibe Aero Gives Cyclists the Benefits of an Integrated Cockpit Without the Potential Bike Fit Drawbacks

The new PRO Vibe Aero Carbon Handlebar and PRO Vibe Aero Stem combine aerodynamics with optimization to provide a customizable cockpit that meets all the needs of the competitive road cyclist. By combining an aerodynamic handlebar and stem this PRO cockpit gives cyclists the benefits of an integrated cockpit without the potential bike fit drawbacks.

Drawing upon PRO’s Dutch engineering design philosophy and manufactured to the exacting standards, developed by PRO’s Japanese heritage, the PRO Vibe Aero Carbon Handlebar and PRO Vibe Aero Stem will aid riders in their pursuit of speed and enjoyment on their road bikes.

Featuring a T700 and T800 UD Carbon construction the new handlebars have aerodynamically optimized tops, which also boast an anti-slip coating, and a 10-degree forward sweep to enable riders to tuck themselves in even further and reduce their frontal area. This narrow rider profile is also enhanced by the handlebar’s narrow width and the inward sweep of the STI clamping area.

The 37-centimeter-wide version has a 126 millimeter drop and 77-millimeter reach, and weighs 240 grams.

While the aerodynamic benefits of the PRO Vibe Aero Carbon Handlebars serve as the primary attraction, it is their customization that sets them apart. Available in three widths, from 37 to 41 centimeters, the real benefit of the handlebars is their compatibility with standard 31.8-millimeter clamping diameter stems. Designed to be used with the new PRO Vibe Aero Stem, available in six lengths, each stem has a negative 17-degree angle option. This combination allows for a precise and comfortable bike fit.

PRO’s Marketing Manager, Niek Verbakel said: “We are very excited to launch the PRO Vibe Aero Carbon Handlebar and PRO Vibe Aero Stem. From our in-house testing and the PRO Community Riders’ feedback, we are confident that we have produced a cockpit that will save you watts and allow you to get into a comfortable aerodynamic position on the bike.”

The functionality of the PRO Vibe Aero Carbon Handlebar is designed for a variety of cable routing styles: when partnered with electronic shifters the hydraulic brake hoses and electronic wires can be neatly hidden inside the handlebar, routed into the PRO Vibe Aero Stem and into the headset of compatible bike frames.

The handlebar also features dedicated placement points for Shimano Satellite Shifters to allow for seamless shifting from the tops.

Rolf Prima’s New 16 Spoke All-Road Wheelset – The EOS AR

Oregon-based wheel company Rolf Prima is rolling out a new addition to their all-road wheel line. The new EOS AR is their most advanced, performance-bred wheel to date. Like their existing ARES AR offering, the new wheels feature a 25mm wide, 40mm deep carbon rim profile and hooked rim design. They add to that platform with an all-new carbon layup, reduced spoke count to 16 spokes front and rear, XD-15 ceramic bearings and stealth cerakoted hub shells for increased longevity and striking aesthetics. The full wheelset weighs only 1385 grams.

Despite the low spoke count, the EOS AR has no rider weight limit, speaking confidently about the strength and durability of the wheelset. “After the release of this wheel’s predecessor, the Ares AR, we realized that the wide, deep rim offered strength and stiffness qualities beyond any other road rim we’d designed,” says engineer, William Reen. “So we were able to make changes in the layup to reduce weight with no adverse impact on durability. Because of the specific design and layup of this rim we were also able to reduce spokes without adding unwanted flex.” Rolf Prima says the wheel has a more supple ride quality while maintaining snappy acceleration and precise steering.

“The ‘all-road’ segment is the fastest growing segment of the sport,” says Krigbaum. “But most of the offerings out there are different meals made of the same basic ingredients. These wheels are apart from that – they’re something truly unique, and any rider that gets on them will agree”

Rolf Prima says that placing the spokes together makes an inherently more aerodynamic wheel and equalized spoke-pull creates snappy acceleration and allows the use of fewer spokes – as evident across their line. With the EOS AR’s unique shape and rim properties, they were able to reduce the spoke count further, offering a 16/16 disc brake wheel for the first time in the company’s 25 year history.

The new EOS AR is available now and retails for $2999.00.
